Reduce the Complexity of a Prop

Postby viciouscircle » Mon Mar 01, 2010 9:44 am

Im wondering if theres a way to reduce the amount of polys a prop has. Im talking bout the cirque du macabre hairs, that make rendering on vue insanelly long (when you apply radiosity it tries to move the light between the hair, taking hours to just progress a bit). I know there's a way on vue, but as they are imported as part of the clown if i reduce the polys of the hair, i reduce the polys of the clown. And importing the prop as a single object is a mess to fit it on the clowns head. Is there a way to reduce using another third party (dont know if zbrush will be able to do that), a option that should be free to just change the geometry in poser and export them fully posed?
I hate faeries and the word cute...

I'm pretty sure that inside Vue, when you import something, you should be able to break it apart into separate meshes, at which point you could let Vue optimize the pieces you need reduced. The other thing I would suggest, however, rather than poly reduction is to try separating the meshes, then turn off various settings like shadow casting or raytracing on the meshes for the hair. In most programs I've found it beneficial to come up with techniques that allow me to choose what render settings I want for any given object so it's something to consider.
